A Great Mattress Is A Comforting One.

Before you buy a mattress that is comfortable, supportive, and lasts a lifetime, you will likely have read numerous online mattress reviews.

Are you thinking of replacing your pillow?

It is possible that you still feel uncomfortable in your bed, even though you have a brand new mattress. You still feel pain in your back and wake up with sore neck.

Your pillow could be the problem, not your mattress.

It’s a good idea if your mattress was replaced recently to also replace your pillow if it has been around for longer than one or two years. It’s time to toss it if it looks like a pancake, or requires constant fluffing in order to feel comfortable.

These are some tips to help you choose the right pillow for your needs.

For Back Sleepers

A thinner pillow will make you feel more at ease if you’re a back-sleeper. This ensures your head doesn’t protrude too far back or forward, which can strain your spine and cause back problems.

The ceiling should be facing you. The pillow may be too thick if you can see your toes.

You should also ensure that the pillow’s bottom is thicker to support the inward curvature of the neck (also known as the cervical lordosis). To give your neck more support, you can move the pillow forward a little.

A low-profile memory foam pillow is highly recommended. It molds perfectly to your head, neck, and spine, keeping them in the correct position and alignment.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers need a firmer pillow that is thicker and more supportive.

A thin pillow can make your neck curve and strain your spine. The side of your neck that you slept on will be sore the next morning. You should also avoid using one that is too thick. It will push your head up above your shoulder and cause more strain on your neck.

You should look for a pillow with gusseted edges.

These pillows have side panels made of fabric. This paneling makes the pillow thicker and more supportive, which is great for side sleepers.

As long as the pillow is thick enough to support your head and neck in neutral positions, you can use any type of pillow, including memory foam, feathers, polyester, or down.

Stomach Sleepers

You should get the thinnest, most comfortable pillow for stomach sleeping. To avoid straining your spine, you only need to elevate your head a little.

You can even try changing your sleeping position. Experts say that sleeping on your stomach is the most uncomfortable sleeping position. This position can put a lot of strain and strain on your spine, and can lead to neck and back pain. If you are trying to find a comfortable position to sleep, you will be more likely to toss and turn during the night.

Sleep on your side.

For Combined Sleepers

Look for a medium-thick, medium-firm pillow if you have a tendency to move around in your sleep. You will feel more comfortable if you sleep on your side or back.

A memory foam pillow is my recommendation. It molds to your head and neck when you switch sleeping positions.

Additional Tips

  • Your pillow should be replaced every 2 years. With time, pillows lose their support. They can also collect dead skin cells, dust mites, and other allergens which can adversely affect your sleep quality and health.
  • You can research different types of pillows fillings. Your comfort preferences will determine which pillow filling is best. A feather or down pillow is best for you if you like a soft pillow.

A latex, memory, or poly foam foam pillow will be more firm for you. A pillow made from buckwheat or other hypoallergenic fillings is best for you if you suffer from allergies.

  • Avoid memory foam pillows if you have heat sensitivities. Memory foam retains heat better than other materials.
  • Additional body support pillows are available. To align your spine, if you are sleeping on your back, place a pillow between your legs. A pillow between your knees is a good option for back sleepers.
  • You might consider buying a specialized pillow. These pillows are made for specific conditions like sleep apnea or snoring. You can also find cervical pillows that provide enhanced neck support or pregnancy pillows for pregnant mums.
